Sunday 3rd February 2019 – at 08.04 this morning our pod of seven swimmers jumped into deep water off Point Nepean to start our swim across The Rip at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. Conditions were benign, for The Rip at least, with a swell of less than half a metre and a waning ebb tide moving through the Port Phillip Heads and into Bass Strait. Water temperature was about 18C.
We swam in a, more or less, direct line to the lighthouse on the opposite side of the Heads. All seven of our team made it to the beach at Point Lonsdale 58 minutes and 3.2 kms later. It was a great feeling to emerge out of the surf and walk ashore…

We have now earned our place on the The Rip Honour Board of completed swims without wetsuits. Well done Rippers and many thanks to our pilot, escort kayakers, boat crew and land helpers!
After The Rip
The Rip proved to be a good work out for more deep water challenges. Watch out for my next series titled “Swim The Planet”. I’ll start posting soon.

CONGRATULATIONS RIA !!!!!
