On 15th August 2019 I completed The Lake Memphremagog 11.3 kilometre marathon swim which is part of the week-long Kingdom Games in North Eastern Vermont.

Twenty eight swimmers started the race at 9.30am with an average water temperature of approximately 21C and air temperatures around 22C. The breeze was minimal and the water conditions were flat.

We began from Clubhouse Beach near Derby, swimming to the south of Bell Island, then turning north toward Province Island and across the western side of the island and into Canada turning at the north end of Province then south-east past Eagle Point and Cove Island and returning to Clubhouse Beach. The swim course is below

My time for the swim was 4 hours 38 minutes.  It was a great relief to touch the sandy bottom at the finish line. My first words were “I can’t believe I did that!”

BTW, I encountered Memphre, the fabled lake monster, and here’s the photo to prove it:

memphre exists
Memphre exists!

Here is a short video of my swim.
